Dear Fellow Parishioners,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Are you ready for Advent? I hope so because it begins this Sunday! The songs this week should be mostly familiar. The opening song is one we introduced for Advent four years ago (The King Shall Come https://youtu.be/B6pquFuGhTU) The other that is less familiar is ‘Turn to Me’ which the choir sang this year for the first time on Ash Wednesday https://youtu.be/0FDphUBRsA4. The words for these songs and all others for this week can be found in this attachment.

The Gospel this week asks us to be watchful so I chose the next two songs to share:

‘Be Watchful and Ready’ sung by Andi Kitten and Madeline Powell   https://youtu.be/O6qTrqAyFkA

A more upbeat take on the subject is ‘Be Watchful’ by Gretchen Harris  https://youtu.be/D0iPILh8y5s

The next is an Advent song by Christy Nockels titled ‘The Thrill of Hope’  https://youtu.be/gNuY6I4OtoE

‘Wait for the Lord’ a Taizé hymn by Jacques Berthier https://youtu.be/s7GexIvX8HU

And my last link for this week is an interesting and beautiful version of an old standard for Advent ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’ sung by Anna Hawkins, filmed in Israel and sung in both English and Hebrew. If you click on “Show More” below the title, you can see the lyrics in both languages.  https://youtu.be/MD-jBLZSZNU

I wish you and yours a blessed beginning to Advent. May God keep you safe and healthy throughout the holiday season.

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Here we are at the end of the liturgical year, celebrating the Feast of Christ the King. Next Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent, believe it or not. This week the only song you may not be familiar with is ‘Hymn to Christ the King’ by Sarah Hart and here is a link so you can hear it: https://youtu.be/sCqxW8BnK-8

The words to this song and all the others can be found in this attachment.

It was so hard to whittle down my list of song choices to share with you this week. I finally chose the following:

‘There Is a King’ sung by Chris Brown https://youtu.be/-h-NCaXwQ0s

‘Heaven Crowned Him Christ the King’ a choral piece written by Pepper Choplin https://youtu.be/pqoVa-65IK4

‘Come Worship Christ the King’ by the Zoe Group https://youtu.be/njWIguJFaDo
This has an uninspired beginning, but quickly picks up. Hang in there.

‘The King in All His Beauty’ by Sovereign Grace Music
https://youtu.be/odKxftGhVRE

And lastly, in honor of Thanksgiving, ‘Give Thanks’ sung by Janella Salvador https://youtu.be/PYRgB26rPIs

Wishing you all a safe, healthy and very happy Thanksgiving,

Update on Father Tom

Fr. Tom checked in to the hospital at 7:30 am on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. The doctor said that Fr. Tom’s potassium level was perfect the morning before surgery. His cardiac ablation procedure which should have taken 3 to 4 hours ended up being 6.5 hours. The doctor said the procedure was much more extensive and complicated than he expected. He feels the surgery was a success. Fr. Emmanuel was able to visit him later that evening. Fr. Tom was in the hospital for just one night and was released early Wednesday evening.

Fr. Tom is doing well and will be staying at his sister Mary Ellen’s house as he recovers.

Praise and thanks to God for Fr. Tom and Fr. Emmanuel! Thank you all for your continued prayers.

Christmas Tree Sale Fundraiser
Ends Today!!!
Book Club Meets Next in December

Have you ordered your Christmas Tree/Wreath from the Summit Youth Ministry yet? If not, the last day to order is TODAY!

Christmas may look different this year, but that’s not stopping us from our annual Christmas Tree Sales Fundraiser to support our Youth Ministry programs and activities! All proceeds from the Tree Sale go directly towards programs that enrich our teens in Youth Ministry!

These are high-quality trees cut fresh the day they leave from Oregon! They are beautiful trees that smell absolutely GLORIOUS and last a VERY long time. Again, the proceeds go to our youth ministry and will help get teens scholarships for retreats, improvements for the youth room, and more!

In addition, you can purchase a Tree or Wreath and have it sent to a local military family via the “Trees for Troops” program. This is a great option for those families that use a fake tree or will be out of town for Christmas, and this will still benefit our youth ministry as we will still receive proceeds from this purchase!

Buy online at this link:
http://sacredheartob.org/youth-ministry/christmas-tree-sale-fundraiser/

After the pre-order you can pick up your tree at our festive tree lot on Sunday, December 6th from 8:30-1:00PM at the Church courtyard!

LAST DAY TO ORDER IS TODAY!

For more information on how to order a tree or wreath, go here: http://sacredheartob.org/youth-ministry/christmas-tree-sale-fundraiser/

Thanks so much everybody, and let me be the very first to say…MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

God bless you!

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

I hope you’re all managing to stay well while the county’s Covid cases are on the rise. Our parish is doing its part in keeping you safe by moving back into the courtyard. This week’s songs should all be quite familiar and you can find the words in this attachment.

The Gospel this week is the parable about the master who gave talents to his servants. Always on the hunt for songs that echo the readings, I found a few about this one.

The ‘talents’ in this parable are often interpreted to be the gifts or talents that God has given us, hence the following choice: ‘We All Have Gifts to Share’ by Susan Kay Wyatts https://youtu.be/G8vfPPfQ0bo

‘Open Hands’ by Ashley Nicole Barney https://youtu.be/A3QQMiLDCWE

‘Parable Song’ by the Seeds This one deals with many parables we’ve heard in the readings in the last couple of months.  https://youtu.be/EpNvyLKXNYk

‘Amatalanta’ by Timothy Namikuta from Lusaka, Zambia. This one is a real change of pace. I’m taking their word for it that this song is about this Gospel!
https://youtu.be/QShMWD6kNMo

And to close us out for today, a beautiful song by Amy Grant, ‘Thy Word’
https://youtu.be/a6LC8cu03Ig

I hope you enjoy them all! Have a great week. May God bless you with safety and good health.
