Mass Link for Easter

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. He is Risen! Mass is this morning at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. There will be a Children’s Easter Egg Hunt after 10:00 AM Mass. If Mass reaches capacity in the church, seating and a video monitor are setup outside on the patio.

Mass is streamed live this morning at 8:00 AM at this link on the Sacred Heart YouTube channel.

Fr. Emmanuel makes available his homily on his blog at this link.

Happy Easter!

Music for Easter

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Happy Easter morning! We have a couple special songs for you this morning. We are beginning with a shortened version of ‘Risen! Christ Is Risen’  https://youtu.be/sImf4pP4u0o , a song that one of the choirs sang a couple of years ago. And Cia chose ‘In the Breaking of the Bread’ https://youtu.be/MmpcyYJ0At8 for communion. Our choirs have sung this before, too, but I doubt that you know it well enough to sing along. I hope both of these songs make Easter morning mass a special and uplifting experience for you! The other songs should be familiar and the lyrics to all these songs can be found in this attachment.

I came up with some other great Easter music for you (at least I think so!) As usual, I tried to find a mix of musical styles for you.

‘Worthy is the Lamb’ (Choplin)
https://youtu.be/Avk2AFYN8d4

‘Ain’t No Grave/Alive Forever Amen’
Travis Cottrell and Elicia Brown
https://youtu.be/XmrLgmN3ssA

‘Risen’ (Shawna Edwards)
https://youtu.be/xCQsK1t9EKY

‘Nothin’ Gonna Hinder My Jesus’
https://youtu.be/ZRbIJyvJOI0

‘Because He Lives (Amen)’ by Matt Maher

‘The Wondrous Cross’ Christy Nockels
https://youtu.be/knJrCGrskqM

‘Empty Grave’ by Zach Williams
https://youtu.be/oSw7bmqFwP8?t=107

And this last one is a blast from the past (1974); even the font used for the lyrics looks straight from my youth!

‘Easter Song’ by 2nd Chapter of Acts

I hope all of these songs will bring you joy on this most joyous feast in the liturgical year. Happy, happy Easter!

Holy Thursday – Music

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Here we are in Holy Week! Tonight’s Mass is different from our usual celebration of Holy Thursday and the remembrance of the Last Supper, since we can’t perform the washing of the feet, but we can remember it through the Gospel and in song. Here is a link to the lyrics.

Tonight we will be singing ‘As I Have Done for You’ and I found a truly lovely recording of it that I wanted to share with you, since you won’t get to hear the whole song tonight.

‘Wash Their Feet’ by Tony Elenburg
https://youtu.be/uGp802EhVro
‘The Basin and the Towel’ by Michael Card
https://youtu.be/UghH3bxl-Do

In addition to the washing of the feet, we memorialize the institution of the Holy Eucharist.

‘In Remembrance of You’ (Kroger and Hart)
https://youtu.be/81JHZvlkMKo
‘In Remembrance of Me’ by Cheri Kaeggy
https://youtu.be/WReXhV7MpI0

‘Is It I, Lord?’ (Kellner) sung by a youth choir
https://youtu.be/tTLpRY4pzoQ
echoes the cries of the Apostles.

And lastly, ‘Wonderful Merciful Savior’ sung by Selah

Have a blessed Holy Thursday evening and enjoy the music!

EASTER BREAKFAST BLESSING
On Holy Saturday some European peoples have their Easter breakfast blessed. This Holy Saturday, April 3, bring a basket – ŚWIĘCONKA (Easter basket) – with food for your Easter breakfast (Sugar Lamb, eggs, ham, sausage, horseradish, etc.) and Fr. Tom will bless it. The blessing will be at 10:00 a.m.
NEW SOCKS FOR HOLY THURSDAY
This year at Holy Thursday Mass, April 1st at 7:00PM, we will not be washing each other’s feet. Instead of this beautiful tradition we will be collecting new socks for our unsheltered brothers and sisters. Please drop them off in the box in the back of the church.
Della Greenwell Drive-By
To keep you from wandering around San Diego looking for Graner Street in Yonkers, New York… You’ll find the Della Greenwell drive-by this Wednesday at 4554 Granger Street right here in the 92107. Disregard the address below but not the drive-by birthday or the cupcakes. Sorry for the error!
written by Rev. Mark Suslenko
When Jesus was transfigured before his disciples’ eyes, he stood before them. Now that he has risen from the dead his resurrected presence is within them! This is not something that comes as the result of a request, it is simply a gift.
Each week we will be sharing a reflection on the Sunday readings at Mass, provied by the publishers of our bulletin.

Palm Sunday of the Passion of our Lord
Overflow – Outside Viewing of Mass

The triumphant arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem is how we’d like to remember our Savior. Everything came crashing down as the week of Passover unfolded. Will I stand by our Lord, or walk away in fear? Mass is this afternoon at 4:30PM and tomorrow at 8:00AM, 10:00AM and 5:00PM. If Mass reaches capacity in the church, seating and a video monitor are setup outside on the patio.

Mass will be streamed live at 8:00 AM tomorrow morning at this link on the Sacred Heart YouTube channel:

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

We have reached Palm Sunday and that brings us to the beginning of Holy Week. The songs that you will hear during this Sunday’s mass are all ones we’ve done before and you can find their lyrics in this attachment.

Faithful Cross we have only sung during Holy Week and since offertory is so short these days I wanted to give you the opportunity to hear the whole song, so I’m providing a link for you: https://youtu.be/RvBQ7yx2zAw.

The first song I want to share with you today is new version of the psalm for today, ‘My God, My God’ by Francesca La Rosa https://youtu.be/m3YNrluAXHA

The others will take you from his triumphal entry through the passion.

‘Hosanna to the Son’ by Alan Pote https://youtu.be/K0thOWyTBHE

‘Hosanna to the Son of David’ by the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles https://youtu.be/cnR103-WiVc

‘Jerusalem’ by City of Enoch https://youtu.be/yGbSgdim6fo

‘The Song of Peter’s Denial’ by Ryan Brown https://youtu.be/wb0Y6NSSqEM

‘Rise Again’ by Dallas Holm https://youtu.be/dU6P0QZM5LE

Have a blessed Holy week and enjoy the music! More will be coming later in the week.

God bless you all,
Janis Cantú

Reconciliation

This year because of COVID we will not have a
Parish Reconciliation service. Instead we will have extra times for individual confessions.

Reconciliation will be held outside. If the weather is bad, we will be inside the church in the confessional room.

These times will be from 5:30 – 6:30 PM on:

Wednesday, March 24th – Fr. Tom Kiely

We will still have Saturday Confessions
from 3:15 – 4:00 pm

Lent is a wonderful opportunity to be made new and united to God’s grace for all we face in our daily lives. Please consider this gift of God’s healing hand and renewing our soul.

You can download a copy of this schedule here.
