Father Joseph Coffey is from Philadelphia, PA and a lifelong fan of the Philly Pro Sports teams which means he is accustomed to suffering!!
Ordained to the priesthood in 1996 he spent five years as a Curate in a busy parish in Philadelphia. The school had 700 children and Fr. Joe regularly challenged and beat the eighth grade boys in basketball games. They couldn’t believe it!!! He spent summers with his family at the shore in Avalon, NJ and that’s why he feels right at home in Ocean Beach. His favorite sports are ocean kayaking and you may find him on his stand up paddleboard in Mission Bay as soon as it gets a little warmer.
His passions are the Right to Life and praying the Rosary. For the last 15 years he has been on Active Duty as a Navy Chaplain with assignments with the Navy, Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard. His assignments have included deployments to the Persian Gulf and the South Pacific on two aircraft carriers and with the Marines in Afghanistan. He is currently assigned to MCRD, San Diego, the Marine Corps boot camp. He is very happy to be in residence at Sacred Heart and he looks forward to helping out when available for Mass and meeting the parishioners of Sacred Heart.Semper Fidelis. Uhrahh!!

This weekend there will be a second collection for Loaves and Fishes to help feed those in Ocean Beach who need the assistance. Please be generous, because that’s our spirit here at Sacred Heart, especially during this Lenten Season as we prepare for Easter.

Have you ever thought about the possibility of becoming a priest?
Has anybody ever said to you, “Hey, you’d be a really good priest!”
Or do you know someone who you think would be interested in the priesthood?
We are excited to announce the upcoming Explorer Day 2015!
All men who are interested in the priesthood are invited to join us on Saturday, July 18th. We’ll meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Francis Center on the campus of USD.
There’s no cost to attend and we would love to see you there.
Explorer Day is a chance to learn more about discernment, and to learn more about the priesthood.
You’ll meet our seminarians, see where they live, and hear the story of how two of our seminarians made the decision to enter our program of formation.
During this inspiring day, we’ll also gather in prayer and listen for the Lord’s call.
For more information, please call Fr. Pedro Rivera, Director of Priestly Vocations at (858) 490-8385 or write to privera@diocese-sdiego.org.
Save the date, Saturday, July 18th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Francis Center on the campus of USD.
Please pray for an increase to vocations to the priesthood. Thank you.
We can’t wait to see you at Explorer Day!
