Happy Feast of the Sacred Heart!
Picture of 2019 Feast Day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Chili Cook-Off Party

When I think back to last year, I think of the great party we had. Our community came together to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart, but we also celebrated being part of such a loving community. I look forward to next year (2021) when we can come together once again to play games, eat good food, beat Fr. Tom in the Chili Cook-off, and embrace the vibrant community of Sacred Heart.

Since we cannot get together this year for a BBQ, let us get together in prayer at home or at the 8:00 am Mass. I challenge everyone to pray the prayer listed below at 6:00 pm. We may be separated physically, but we will never be separated spiritually.

 Prayer to the Sacred Heart
O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing,
I adore you, I love you and will a lively sorrow for my sins.
I offer you this poor heart of mine.
Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to your will.
Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you.
Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions;
give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs,
your blessings on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death.
Within your heart I place my every care.
In every need let me come to you with humble trust saying,
Heart of Jesus, help me.

Amen.

Feast of Corpus Christi

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

The church is open and having Masses again this weekend, just in time to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. There are many changes you will notice, one of them being that the Mass is shorter and there’s a lot less singing in order to help shorten it. For instance, the psalm and the other parts of the Mass that we usually sing like the Holy, Holy and the Lamb of God, will be recited instead of sung. Since we expel a lot more air and thus more germs when singing, the congregation at church will be asked not to sing. I have tried to choose music that is familiar but not known from memory to reduce the temptation to join in.

You at home, however, can sing as loud as you want! All the songs I have chosen this week are ones that you are likely to have heard before if you regularly attended Sunday Mass at 8:00 or 10:00 a.m., but they are all available on YouTube if you don’t recognize them.

You can find the lyrics to this week’s hymns in this attachment. You’ll notice that there are only three songs this week instead of four. That is because Communion will be received at the end of Mass after the final blessing so instead of a communion song and then a closing song, they have been combined and the focus is on communion since the congregation will be receiving it at that time.

Like all of you, I am looking forward to a time when we can all go back to Mass without fear of contagion and have everything back to normal, including my wonderful choirs. Until then, I hope that God will bless you all with continued good health and that the music we bring you will enhance your spiritual experience at Mass and leave you feeling uplifted.

I want to thank John Rodriguez for stepping in and bringing us wonderful music over the past couple of months. Great job, John!

This week’s musical selections are all focused on the Eucharist in honor of Corpus Christi Sunday.

“Panis Angelicus” (Bread of Angels) by César Franck https://youtu.be/vxD11GPICls
There were so many renditions of this song to choose from (even a duet by Pavarotti and Sting!) that it was tough to choose just one, but I finally settled on sharing this beautiful rendition by a boys’ choir for the crystalline purity and innocence of their voices.

“Remembrance” by Matt Maher https://youtu.be/d53V3OO9ihU
and a song that we have sung before and will sing again,

“How Beautiful” by Twila Paris https://youtu.be/jVu5VZsCNOI

I hope you enjoy them all!

May God bless you and keep you safe,

Janis Cantú

Since Mass will include both those in the church and others at home, we now have a different process for viewing the Mass if you are not attending in person.

The Mass will be live streamed this afternoon (Saturday) at 4:30 PM on the Parish YouTube channel. If things go as planned, after the Mass is completed it will be posted on the YouTube channel for later viewing. Here is the link to the YouTube channel:

Fr. Emmanuel will still make available the link to his Sunday homily on his blog. You can find the link to his blog here:

Let’s all be thankful that we are here and able to attend Mass in our church or view it online.

God bless you!

First Public Masses Since March…
But What About For Those That It’s Unsafe To Attend

We are all excited that this weekend public Masses will resume in Sacred Heart Church. The blessing that it is to be at Mass can’t be described. However, like me, many of us have wondered what will be available to those that for safety reasons cannot attend?

Since March we have been lucky to have a Mass recorded, edited and posted online for viewing on Sunday. I have a degree in Radio and Television and have worked in media for all of my adult life. What we have seen is a TV show with all of the same production elements. Some scenes have been shot after cameras have been moved to different locations. Other editing was done after the recording was completed. Obviously, this is something that can’t be done with a live Mass.

What we know for sure is that we will be providing a live stream of the 4:30 PM Mass on Saturdays. There will be two cameras on each side of the church in locations that will not interfere in the celebration of Mass. People will be able to watch Mass live or afterwards when it is uploaded to the Sacred Heart OB YouTube channel.

If at other Masses attendance is such that we will need to have people in the Parish hall, the Mass will be streamed live for those in the hall to view. That Mass will be watched live in the hall on YouTube and later be saved there for viewing as well.

Keep in mind, this is a complicated project and process. Problems could arise that may mean things will not work properly or not work at all. Please be patient and caring as we all work together to bring the Lord and Mass to everyone.

We Need Ministers of Hospitality
For the Reopening of Mass
Training is Tomorrow Evening

As Masses will be reopening at Sacred Heart this Saturday and Sunday, we are in great need of people of all ages and walks of life who are willing to help as Ministers of Hospitality. This Pandemic has made the need for ushering more important than ever as there are guidelines we must adhere to in order for Mass to be possible.

We need Ministers of Hospitality for both weekend and weekday Masses. They will make sure that everyone is wearing a mask, provide hand sanitizer, help seat people to make sure social distancing is being practiced in the seating and more to make sure people are following all the guidelines we need to in order for Mass to be celebrated.

NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY, just a willing heart. There is a meeting to train all Ministers of Hospitality tomorrow evening so that everyone feels confident, competent and ready to serve at Masses until things go back to normal.

Once again, the training meeting is tomorrow evening, Wednesday June 10th at 7:00 PM in the Church.

To sign up to be a Minister of Hospitality please email Pat Gunning at youthminister@sacredheartob.org to learn more. Please do this ASAP so that we can create a schedule ahead of the training meeting.

Preparations for Public Mass
– A Video –

We all feel the excitement and spirit as we prepare to gather again in our Church. There of course are changes in place to protect ourselves and our fellow parishioners. In this day and age it’s one thing to read about change but it’s another thing to see it in a video.

Thanks to Gregg and June Sprosty for creating the video that you will find on the Sacred Heart YouTube page:

God bless all of us!

Most Holy Trinity

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Happy Most Holy Trinity Sunday! The lyrics for this week’s songs can be found in this attachment.

John has another song this week that I don’t know called “I Am the Living Bread” by David Haas. It’s not a new song, but I haven’t heard it before so maybe you haven’t either. You can hear it at this link: https://youtu.be/2Q_ltPrU47U

I found a lovely song celebrating the Holy Trinity to share with you today:

“Father, Son, Spirit” by Jason Upton https://youtu.be/qULnbRmU0F8

The other song this week is a share from Fr. Tom:

“Irish Blessing” https://youtu.be/TascsWZPj8U

Until next week, stay safe and stay healthy.
