Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

These classes are for anyone who is an adult and needs any of the following Sacraments: Baptism, First Communion or Confirmation. These classes are also for people who are Catholic and want to know more about their faith. If Interested in joining contact Stephen Williams. Classes begin Monday September 23rd at 6pm at Sacred Heart Academy.

Adult Bible Study on Women in the New Testament

We will be using Liturgical Press’ study on the “Women in the New Testament.” This will be a 6-week study! Classes begin Tuesday October 1st at 1pm in the Parish Hall and 7pm on Zoom. Contact Stephen Williams if you would like to sign up.

Children Religious Education

These class are for children kindergarten to fifth grade who want to learn more about their faith and grow in their love for God. These are also the classes for the First Communion program, which is a two year program. Classes begin Sunday October 6th at 8:30am at Sacred Heart Academy.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

This is a program at the 10am Mass. During the Liturgy of the Word at Mass kids listen to the Mass readings and homily at their level. Kids return to Mass for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. This program begins Sundays October 6th and is only at the 10am Masses

No Registration is needed for this program. For more information contact Stephen Williams.

 

Confirmation Classes

The confirmation classes are for high schoolers who are seeking the sacrament of Confirmation. This is a two year program. Classes begin Wednesday October 9th at 6:30pm at Sacred Heart Academy.

Oktoberfest Auction Donations Needed

This year our annual Oktoberfest FUNdraiser coincides with the opening weekend of Oktoberfest in Munich on September 21, 2024.

We’ll have more daylight and warmer weather, so you can sip a cold beer without shivering like a wet schnauzer. Time is running out and we’re in need of silent and live auction donations to support the fundraising effort. Can’t make it to Oktoberfest in person? Sponsor the meal with a donation to help defray the cost of this fun community event.

Adult Bible Study

We are excited to announce we are beginning a new Bible Study in the Fall! We will be using Liturgical Press’ study on the “Women in the New Testament.” This will be a 6-week study! We will meet Tuesdays at 1pm in the parish hall and 7pm on zoom. You can pick which of the two times work best for you.

Liturgical Press Description of the study:
“Women were essential to the ministry of Jesus and the flourishing of the early church. In Women in the New Testament, trusted guide Catherine Cory delves into the lives of the fascinating women who befriended Jesus, were healed and transformed by him, followed him as disciples, and proclaimed the good news of his resurrection. Journey through the New Testament, exploring the social and religious world of first-century Palestine and the remarkable lives of these women of faith. Six lessons survey New Testament texts about Mary the mother of Jesus, women healed by Jesus, the Samaritan woman, Mary and Martha of Bethany, Mary Magdalene, and various women of the early church, such as Priscilla and Phoebe.”

To do this class you will need go on the Liturgical Press website and buy the book.  Before each class you will need to  do the assigned reading and answer a few questions in your book. During class we will talk about the readings and questions. At the end we will watch a video reviewing what we learned in the study.

Children’s Religious Ed

Hi!

I hope everyone has had a lovely summer! For those that joined us for VBS Camp Firelight I hope you had a good time with us!

The time has come to start looking ahead to the fall! Classes begin October 6th!
Registration has opened for Children Religious Ed and closes September 29th!
We are keeping everything the same as last year, but I will add the details below!

Students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade meet weekly Sunday mornings in the upstairs of Sacred Heart Academy (4895 Saratoga Ave, San Diego, CA 92107) at 8:30am in the morning. We gather together in a large group in the upstairs room from 8:30am-8:45am to have large group time. From 8:45am -9:40am we will break out into our age level group sections. Level 1 is Kindergarten-First grade, Level 2 is First Communion Class (IS A TWO YEAR PROGRAM), Level 3 is Third grade- Fifth grade.
We will also offering a homeschooling option for parents to be the Catechist (homeschooling is not allowed for the First Communion Preparation Year). Parents will be the teachers and do periodic zoom check ins with me.

The cost of Religious Ed is $100 (one child) and $75 (for each additional child). You can pay online on the parish’s website through ONLINE GIVING just select Religious Ed Registration or can pay in person at the parish office during business hours.

We are hoping to see you all back! Please tell all of your friends about this wonderful program that includes First Communion Preparation (2 year program)!
