Los Posadas

Sunday Evening at 6:30 PM

The Posadas is a nine-day religious festival celebrated throughout Latin America from December 16 to December 24. Las Posadas gets its name from the journey taken by Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem when Mary was about to give birth to Jesus. Due to the Roman census, when they arrived after a 90-mile journey, all the hostelries were full. Mary and Joseph went door to door pidiendo posada (looking for a place to spend the night, “asking for an inn”.) Come celebrate las Posadas with us. (90-mile journey not required. 12)

The Journey (Caminata)

For our Posada, we will travel together as a community on a much shorter journey (caminata). We will sing the traditional Posadas songs as we travel from house to house (approx.. two blocks), until we reach the “inn” where Mary and Joseph will be we welcomed.

Please Bring

  • A dish to share
  • A candle to carry
  • Your best singing voice

Wear

  • Comfortable shoes
  • Warm coat

Logistics

  • Drop off a dish to share (and anything else you don’t want to carry) at the final “inn” which is at: 1995 Venice St.
  • Then walk one block to our starting point: 1955 Santa Barbara St.

If the caminata seems overwhelming, park and join us at the final “inn”. We need innkeepers to welcome in the peregrinos (pilgirims).

Wednesday Evening at 7:00PM

Our Advent Reconciliation / Penance service is an opportunity to receive God’s mercy in the sacrament of Confession. We extend Christ’s invitation to all, especially those who have been away from this beautiful sacrament. We encourage you to come back to the sacrament and receive the abundant, merciful love of God.

Please join your Parish family in celebrating this sacrament of healing on Wednesday at 7:00PM. This will be the only time for receiving this sacrament during the week before Christmas, so take advantage of this beautiful service.

Be the Heart of the OB Parade!

Float Staging Area on Saturday

We’re excited to invite you to participate in the Ocean Beach Parade this Saturday, December 7th! This year, our parish is creating a truly special float (position #6) to spread the message of Christmas compassion. We’ll be depicting the Holy Family alongside a contemporary family in need, visually representing the spirit of giving and empathy that defines the Christmas season.

The Sacred Heart portion of the parade concludes around 5:45 pm, but your help is needed earlier in the day! We’ll be constructing the float starting at 9:00 am in the church parking lot. All hands are welcome – whether you’re a seasoned craftsperson or simply eager to lend a hand, your contribution will be invaluable in bringing our vision to life.

To join the parade procession,
please meet Father Billy at 4:40 pm at staging area: A

We’ll be positioned to ensure a prominent display of our float, allowing us to share the joy and message of Christmas with the entire community.

Your participation would be greatly appreciated as we strive to make this year’s Ocean Beach Parade a truly memorable celebration of faith, community, and the spirit of Christmas. We look forward to seeing you there!

Come have fun and spread the Sacred Heart Spirt!!!

Giving Tuesday

for your Parish

Dear Sacred Heart OB Parishioners,

This coming Tuesday is “Giving Tuesday,” a global day of charitable giving that continues to grow in popularity. This year Sacred Heart of OB is participating in this effort, and a generous donor has already pledged to match online giving donations up to $2,500.

We are grateful that we have finished our insurance claim projects at the middle cottage and the steps of the Church. We have replaced the gate to the courtyard that was corroded. We are also in the middle of projects involving the upstairs balcony to the office, maintenance and repairs to our stained glass windows, in addition to some important upkeep at Sacred Heart Academy.

With your help, our next projects will be to re-paint the inside of the Church, refinish and reseal the tile floor of the Church, and make some upgrades to our Hall.

It is your generosity that helps us care for our grounds and buildings that allow us to carry out our mission and ministries.

Please consider Sacred Heart of OB this Giving Tuesday, whether this is an event you regularly participate in or if this year is your first time. You can donate online with a credit card, ACH, PayPal, and Google Pay. Mobile phone options include Apple Pay and Venmo.
