Weekend Special Collection

For
Los Angeles Wildfire Victims
Sacred Heart of OB will join the Diocese of San Diego in a second collection effort to aid the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires at all Masses this weekend. Special envelopes will be available in the pews. We’ve also created an online giving option. Our donations will be routed directly to a program implemented by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to provide immediate direct cash assistance to those who are in great need through their parish aid networks. Thank you very much for your generosity!

Los Posadas

Sunday Evening at 6:30 PM

The Posadas is a nine-day religious festival celebrated throughout Latin America from December 16 to December 24. Las Posadas gets its name from the journey taken by Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem when Mary was about to give birth to Jesus. Due to the Roman census, when they arrived after a 90-mile journey, all the hostelries were full. Mary and Joseph went door to door pidiendo posada (looking for a place to spend the night, “asking for an inn”.) Come celebrate las Posadas with us. (90-mile journey not required. 12)

The Journey (Caminata)

For our Posada, we will travel together as a community on a much shorter journey (caminata). We will sing the traditional Posadas songs as we travel from house to house (approx.. two blocks), until we reach the “inn” where Mary and Joseph will be we welcomed.

Please Bring

  • A dish to share
  • A candle to carry
  • Your best singing voice

Wear

  • Comfortable shoes
  • Warm coat

Logistics

  • Drop off a dish to share (and anything else you don’t want to carry) at the final “inn” which is at: 1995 Venice St.
  • Then walk one block to our starting point: 1955 Santa Barbara St.

If the caminata seems overwhelming, park and join us at the final “inn”. We need innkeepers to welcome in the peregrinos (pilgirims).

Wednesday Evening at 7:00PM

Our Advent Reconciliation / Penance service is an opportunity to receive God’s mercy in the sacrament of Confession. We extend Christ’s invitation to all, especially those who have been away from this beautiful sacrament. We encourage you to come back to the sacrament and receive the abundant, merciful love of God.

Please join your Parish family in celebrating this sacrament of healing on Wednesday at 7:00PM. This will be the only time for receiving this sacrament during the week before Christmas, so take advantage of this beautiful service.
