This Past Sunday’s Homily

Sunday was the first week of the diocesan initiative on the Eucharist. It is meant to renew our understanding of and love for the Eucharist. We are blessed to have this tool to deepen our understanding of the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

Those who viewed the Mass online would have heard an audio issue during the homily – that won’t happen again. Please accept my sincere apologies and watch the homily here:

Students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade meet weekly Sunday mornings in the upstairs of Sacred Heart Academy (4895 Saratoga Ave, San Diego, CA 92107) at 8:30am in the morning. We gather together in a large group in the upstairs room from 8:30am-8:45am to have snack and large group time. Then, we break into age level groups until 9:40am. Kids and teachers will be wearing a Mask in these in person classes as advised by the San Diego Diocese. Music For The
24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

This week we’re singing a couple songs you might not be that familiar with, although they aren’t totally new to us:

Day of Peace  https://youtu.be/jTacujPDnpg

and

Rejoice in the Promise of Jesus https://youtu.be/aVMXlW6Aqrw. The words to these songs and all the others can be found in this attachment.

I based my choices of the following selections on the second reading by St. James and on the Gospel in which Jesus says to take up our cross and follow him.

Enjoy the music and have a great week! God bless,

Janis Cantú

Our Fall Bible Series starts Tomorrow!

We will be using Ascension Press Series “Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come.” This 11 week study goes over the book of Revelations. To do this class you will need to pay and create an account with Ascension Press with the link below. For just $29.95 plus shipping you will get access to the series videos for a year, a study book and an online workbook. You will have homework each week to read the assigned readings in Revelation and a 55 minute video to watch. On Wednesday we will discussed what we have learned and keep each other accountable for the readings!

We have two options to join the Bible Study Wednesday afternoons in person at 1pm in the Alley Cottage or Wednesday nights on Zoom at 7pm.

Ascensions Press Description of the Study:

“Perhaps no book of the Bible fascinates people more than Revelation. Yet relatively few people have studied it, especially from a Catholic perspective. Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come is an intriguing eleven-session study program that shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. In this study, presenter Jeff Cavins pulls back the veil on the rich symbolism present in Revelation. Discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean and see how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the “end times.” Explore the Church’s teaching on the second coming of Christ and the Last Judgment. Understand how God, the Divine Bridegroom, and the Church, his spotless bride, enter into a heavenly, holy, and mystical marriage every time we celebrate Mass.”

Class Dates: Wednesdays (September 8-December 15)

Music For The
23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

This week we have a new song for communion called ‘Come to Me and Drink’ by Bob Hurd. Here’s a link for you to hear it beforehand if you want to sing it with us:
https://youtu.be/qAfTt2pN8Aw.

The words to this song and all the others can be found in this attachment.

Today’s first reading tells us to fear not because God comes to save us and inspired the first three of today’s selections:

The psalm’s refrain, ‘Praise the Lord, my soul’ inspired the next two songs.

And in this week’s Gospel, Jesus heals a deaf man who then tells everyone.

I hope you enjoy this week’s selections and that you have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend. God bless and keep you.
