Summer 2021
In-Person!!

This Summer we are happy to announce that we will be having an in-person VBS this year! VBS will be primarily held in the courtyard and we will be keeping all safety procedures as regulated by the county. This year’s theme is Rocky Railway “Jesus’ power pulls us through” and I could not think of a better motto for us this year! VBS will be July 19th – July 23rd the program will begin at 9am and end at 12pm. This cost for VBS will be $50 per child and for children ages 4-10 (preschool to 5th grade). You can pay for VBS on Online Giving (found on the Sacred Heart’s homepage) under the tab that says “VBS Registration.” Kids going into 6th grade to senior year of high school can help out as the leaders of the group.

Music For
The 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Happy Father’s Day! This week I’m sharing a few songs for Father’s Day and a few more based on the Gospel in which Jesus calms the storm that was threatening to sink the boat he and the disciples were on. The lyrics for the songs at Mass can be found in this attachment. I don’t think any of them are truly new, although you may be less familiar with the last song, ‘Blest Be the Lord.’ It’s been around a long time, but some of my choir members didn’t know it, so here is a link for you. https://youtu.be/BW5DHXIU43Y

Here are my musical sharings of the week.

For Father’s Day:

Songs with a variety of styles but all based on the Gospel:

And this week’s toe-tapper is one that we older folks are sure to remember:

Once again, happy Father’s Day to all and with the ending of restrictions, I’m sure there will be many happy family gatherings this weekend. God bless you all.

New Mass Guidelines

Dear Sacred Heart Family,

On June 15th, the California Department of Public Health provided updated guidance pertaining to state and county regulations. In response to the latest news, the bishops met and consulted with the Executive Board of the Presbyteral Council and the Board of Deans to further discuss the lifting of restrictions in the Diocese of San Diego. In a letter to all priests, Bishop McElroy provided the following update:

  1. All the restrictions on capacity and spacing for worship and all limitations on meetings and social activities are lifted as of June 17, 2021.
  2. Masks will be optional. No one is to ask whether someone has been vaccinated or not. “Please don’t judge others. If I stop judging others, I free myself from being judged and I can dance!” Patti Digh
  3. Distribution of the Eucharist may again be received on the tongue or will continue to be available in the hand.
  4. The reintroduction of the shared cup will be determined sometime in the future.
  5. Alterations in liturgical spaces and practices necessitated by the pandemic can now cease at the discretion of the pastor. This includes filling the fonts.
  6. It is recommended that non-family members bringing Eucharist to the sick should be vaccinated.
  7. We no longer will video / live stream outside Masses as of July 1st.

The dispensation from the normal obligation to attend Sunday Mass will end on July 1st. We are grateful for this update as we plan for the full reopening of our catechetical ministries and activities this summer and fall. Particularly, we are grateful to our dedicated staff and volunteers for navigating this past year with all its uncertainties and changes with astounding faith and grace.

Here’s a “shout out” to Gregg & June Sprosty who were our live-stream pioneers who stepped up and contributed their talents to help us out, and very special kudos to Janice Teixeira and the Opening Team Committee who faithfully navigated us through the virtual journey during the pandemic. You all are truly an example of great discipleship!!! Thank you all!

Music For
The 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

This weekend Joan Martin is cantering for the 8:00AM Mass! This is a rare chance for those of you still attending Mass online to hear her sing and Pat McClure playing cello since they’re normally at the 4:30PM Mass on Saturday. I have attached two sets of lyrics for this weekend. For those of you wishing to have the words to the songs for the streamed Mass, please see this attachment. I’m sure all of these songs will be very familiar to you.

For those of you who want to print out the words for the songs for the 10:00AM Mass to take to church with you, you’ll find them in this attachment. I also have good news for those attending Mass at church and wanting to join in to the singing: We have purchased missals for the pews and they should be arriving this coming week or next.

This week the Gospel tells us the parable of the mustard seed and we’re celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart on Saturday, so the music I’ve chosen to share have been inspired by those two themes.

‘Heart of Jesus Meek and Mild’ sung by Pauline Ramos

And now, on to the mustard seed! As you can probably guess, they’re all pretty upbeat.

To make up for not having one last week, we have THREE toe-tappers this week:

‘A Little Faith’ by Riley Clemmons

‘Mustard Seed’ by Angie Rosener

‘Little Bitty Mustard Seed’ by the Kingdom Heirs

I hope you have a blessings-filled week ahead of you and that you enjoy all the music I’m sending your way.

EVENT PLANNING FOR 2021-2022

On Monday, June 14th at 10:00 am in the parish hall, we will be meeting to plan the events for the 2021-2022 year.  If you are on the parish ministries and organization list in the bulletin, the book club, the women’s retreat social, the wine tasting, or other groups that schedule events, please plan to attend.

If you cannot attend, and would like to put something on the calendar, please send someone to represent you or an email stating the event, a couple of dates and times you would like to schedule, along with the location.

As we begin to open the church for events we need to be sure we do not have any conflicts and schedule too many events in one month.
