Confirmation
A Two-Year Journey of Faith for High School Teens
Sacred Heart of Ocean Beach prepares high school teens for the Sacrament of Confirmation through a two-year program of faith formation. Candidates may begin preparation as early as their freshman year of high school, growing together in community as they come to more deeply know and live the Catholic faith.
Both years of the program meet on Wednesday evenings and are designed to walk alongside our teens through Scripture, Church teaching, discussion, and personal reflection, building the foundation for a lifelong relationship with Christ and His Church.
Year 1: Foundations of Faith
Year One is open to incoming 9th, 10th, and 11th graders who wish to begin preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. In keeping with the guidelines of the Diocese of San Diego, Confirmation preparation is completed over a two-year period.
Year One — 9th–11th Graders
Wednesdays, 6:30–8:00 PM
With faithful attendance and completion of Year One, candidates become eligible to enter the Confirmation Year the following school year.
Year 2: Receiving the Sacrament
The second year of preparation is the year in which the candidate receives the Sacrament of Confirmation. This year-long formation program gives our teens the heart and soul of the Catholic faith, preparing them to worthily receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring. Sessions are taught through group discussion, Scripture, and reflection, and are a vibrant part of our parish’s youth ministry.
